These days it is difficult for employers to find employees who are focused on their jobs. There is so much outside interference with smart phones and other devices that employees are bringing into work and using on the job. Shut off your phone and give your boss your all while you are at work, it’s a simple thing to ask.

8. Make an effort to be nice to people on the phone even if they are difficult.

When you smile when you are talking, your voice sounds much friendlier and you will convey a calm demeanor to those you are speaking with. You may even be able to calm down an angry person on the other end of the phone. If you are having extreme difficulties, ask the person if you can call them back and then take some time to think about how you will handle the situation before you call them back again.

9. If there is a problem at work that you can handle, do your best to deal with it without having to involve a bunch of other people.

Your boss will appreciate the fact that you took the initiative to deal with a problem and that you saved a bunch of company time too.
